Jeepers creepers...
The past two days were fairly straight forward. I had to detour around a large dam that had submerged the wall. Long days but not much in the way of excitement.
I found myself singing the most ridiculous commercial jingles. ‘Jeepers creepers… where did you get those sneakers…’, ‘Aussie kids… are wheatbix kids’ and ‘I like aeroplane jelly…’ were amongst the most repetitive. Then I ‘graduated’ to country and western. ‘Desperado… you better come to your senses… you’ve been riding those fences for far too long’. After that I just gave up and walked in silence.
Today was a bit different. Difficult and long. I finally got back onto the wall after detouring the dam and let me just say that one four letter word received extensive usage. The wall was in fairly poor condition and heavily overgrown with scrub, much of which was of the prickle and thorn variety. In some sections it was next to impossible to make any meaningful progress and at times I spent half an hour just to progress fifty meters.
In the end I was forced back into the valley and made my way along roads that followed the path of the Great Wall. It ended up being a very long day. I have a feeling that tomorrow will involve a lot of road walking as well. I wont know for sure until I try the next ridge the wall runs along. For now… I’m knackered. Going to sleep and dream of all the things I’ve been missing out on in the past eight months. It’s a long list so best get started.
