Gear List
Here’s the gear list that many of you have been asking for. The items include both my winter and summer gear, some of which I am no longer carrying (i.e. down jacket) but will pick up again when I hit the mountains near Beijing in Autumn.
Hopefully this will help make things easier for those planning a similar trek. I’ve been involved in outdoor pursuits for a long time and the equipment below represents the best gear available on the market. It doesn’t come cheap but when you need to rely on your gear for survival, it’s the best investment you can make. I’ve also included a list of my technical equipment since many have asked about my photographic gear and how I keep the website current. It also gives you a good idea why my packs so damn heavy! I’ll try to include a complete inventory of my first aid kit and field repair kit at a later date.
Millet and Lafuma are a high quality range of outdoor equipment that is relatively new to Australia. They are imported by Adventure Extreme. In Sydney you can find them at Peak15. For other stockist see the Adventure Extreme website. Adventure Extreme and Peak15 set themselves apart from the competition by not only providing outstanding equipment but the level of customer service is exceptional. They had no hesitation in supporting the Great Wall Trek since they also value putting something back into the community. Great to see businesses doing there part to help those less fortunate.
For those in Australia that want to improve there outdoor skills, Outdoor Education Group (OEG) provide outstanding training and tertiary courses. The instructors are amongst the best in the world. If you are thinking of working in the outdoor industry this is the best place to start.
